Amity PT Sets New Standard for Holistic Healing and Wellness

From the start, Michael Dow was inspired to change the clinical face of physical therapy with offices that reflect comfort and compassion – in short, a healing environment in which patients can recover from injuries and joint surgery at their own pace. He personally designs all office motifs. No white walls, no clocks. “We take pride in the architectural aesthetic of our facilities,” he said, “what patients see, feel and use is extremely important.” Along the way Dow has transcended the normal procedures of physical therapy practice, evolving upgrades in both rehab equipment and a holistic approach to his profession.
Some years ago, he was an invited guest at a Life Science seminar in California. Here he presented his concept to combine therapy with physical fitness, moving patients seamlessly from successful injury recover to fitness programs that prevent future injuries and strengthen the body core with progressive, carefully administered programs under the care of licensed fitness trainers, and it doesn’t stop there. Dow added available nutritionist programs, completing his holistic approach to therapy, fitness and restored health to his patients. All five offices of Amity Physical Therapy are truly wellness/fitness centers.
Always ahead of the curve in his profession, Dow outfitted his offices with an elite, break though functional training system, the Synrgy 360 from LifeFitness, a global supplier of top quality fitness equipment. “From the inception of this practice I was determined to spare no expense but to install the finest state of the art fitness equipment possible,” Dow said. “the 360” provides unique, multi-station fitness/workouts that deliver exercise to the entire muscle/joint core structure of the body.”
Turning locally, the practice has always sponsored and funded various social causes. Over the 21 year span, Dow has contributed to popular area road races, established a monetary award at his alma mater, Sacred Heart University – (a scholarship program for students with physical therapy majors) … established a partnership with Pop Warner Football to raise preventative awareness of serious concussions in youth athletics…and the list goes on.
Even his staff of 25, many of whom hold doctoral degrees in physical therapy, are selected from some of the most prestigious PT colleges in the country. In fact, many of Dow’s staff have been clinicians here from the start, indicative of his ability to create a culture of quality around his healing arts brand. This same culture extends outward to faithful patients who post their praise on social media.
“Coming of age at 21” has brought many accolades and awards to a practice that has established a new benchmark of excellence in Physical Therapy. Dow remarked, simply, "It’s in our DNA, helping people back to normal, vibrant lives and activity after injuries or joint surgery. That’s our mission."
