Garden Club Explores Ancient Art of Aromatherapy

On January 6 the Garden Club of Woodbridge had Certified Aromatherapist, Kim Larkin, of Klassic Kreations, LLC of New England as speaker. She explained how different cultures throughout history have embraced aromatherapy for its therapeutic and relaxation benefits. Kim highlighted how essential oils are often chosen based on their properties, such as lavender for calming effects and peppermint for invigoration, helping attendees understand the practical applications of these natural remedies in everyday life. Egyptians used aromatherapy, e.g., frankincence and myrrh (fragrant resins from trees), for perfumes, medicines and incense over 4,500 years ago.
After her opening talk, Kim showed materials for members’ use to design aromatherapy “dream pillows,” foot massage salts and deconstructed natural soap. Herbs of rosemary, chamomile, peppermint, and lavender were mixed with essential oils and encased in an organic bag and then a fabric bag to design the “dream pillow.” These incredibly scented “pillows” promote well-being in bed. Members did all three projects and left the meeting wanting more.
This is an opinion not necessarily endorsed by the Woodbridge Town News.
