Lincoln Ruszkowski, of Woodbridge, received the Amity Youth Lacrosse 2026 Play For Ray Award.

Raymond Heenie, Jr., was the beloved son of Marisol Heenie (Sogluzzi) and the late Raymond Heenie and the little brother to his older sister Lauren. In 2021, Ray suddenly passed away at home due to sudden unexplained death in epilepsy. At the time, Ray was an eighth grade student at the Amity Middle School and played lacrosse for Amity Youth Lacrosse. Ray is fondly remembered by his family and friends as a great person and a dedicated teammate.

In honor of Ray, each year Amity Youth Lacrosse recognizes an eighth grade player who has put his teammates first, shown positive attitude and utmost sportsmanship during the season.

"This year's recipient , Lincoln Ruszkowski, represents the best that youth athletics has to offer and proudly has carried on Ray's legacy" said eighth grade head coach Eric Bowerman.

"AYL is proud to keep Ray's spirit alive and in his honor, AYL will make a $250 donation to the Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut" said AYL President Owen Weaver.

This is an opinion not necessarily endorsed by the Woodbridge Town News.
