The Garden Club of Woodbridge hosted The Bethany Garden Club at its April 1 meeting. "Meadow Gardens" was presented by Kelsey Fisher, PhD, who spoke about insect movement, dispersal ecology and pollinator conservation.

The Garden Club participated in Woodbridge's Earth Day celebration on April 26.  "Litter" was the Club's theme.  To explain the harmful effects of litter, two kiddie pools were filled with water, and resin ducks were added to each pool.  Surrounding the duck in the first pool was an abundant amount of garbage, and the duck swam with a plastic drink carrier stuck around its neck.  The second pool had sparkly-clean water, no garbage, and the duck swam amongst healthy flowers and plants (see photo).  A mother standing by the pools while her children were asking questions remarked that, "the pools were good visuals."  Numerous children enjoyed making seed tapes.  Seeds that attract Monarch Butterflies were glued to biodegradable tape, rolled up and then were ready for planting.   Animal habitat coloring sheets were provided.  Members who volunteered time to make the Garden Club's Earth Day celebration a success were: Debbie Schlegel, Mary Ann Tyma, Susan Anton, Mary Jane Purcell, Maria Kayne, Marie Dube, Lucy LaCava, Jeanne O'Brien Ebiri, Pat Cardozo and Angela Bradley.
