Woodbridge Welcomes Newly Elected Officials for 2026 Term

The Town of Woodbridge formally welcomed its newly elected officials at a Swearing-In Ceremony held Monday, January 5, 2026, at the Woodbridge Center Cafe.
The ceremony marked the beginning of a new term for First Selectman Mica Cardozo and members of the Board of Selectmen, Woodbridge and Amity Boards of Education, and other Town boards and commissions.
The event was attended by residents, community leaders, and state and local dignitaries, including Connecticut Attorney General William Tong and State Senator Jorge Cabrera. Family, friends, and supporters gathered to celebrate the dedication and service of those stepping into public roles.
In his inaugural address, First Selectman Mica Cardozo emphasized the importance of collaboration, respectful dialogue, and future-focused leadership.
“I believe that we must strike a balance between nature, community, responsibility, and opportunity; and that achieving and preserving that balance is our shared goal,” said Cardozo.
“Preserving what we love about Woodbridge will sometimes require us to adapt, not retreat - to plan so that our children can afford to stay or come back, our seniors can age in place, and our schools remain a source of pride.”
Cardozo also outlined his second-term agenda, which includes responsible growth planning, strengthening the business district, addressing tax relief, supporting Beecher Road School’s long-term needs, and improving the efficiency of Town services thoughtfully and responsibly.

The ceremony highlighted the strength of community participation in the recent election, which saw record turnout. The First Selectman noted that the close results reflect both shared values and diverse perspectives across the Town, reinforcing the need for inclusive, thoughtful governance.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue this work,” Cardozo said. “I am optimistic. Because I know and believe in the strength of the people who call Woodbridge home.”
Newly sworn officials will hold their first meetings this month, with the first regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen to be held on Wednesday, January 14, at 5:00 PM in the Town Hall Main Meeting Room and streamed live on the Town WGATV79 YouTube Channel.
